Mandy Capel
‘Mandy’ moved from South Africa to the UK in 2002. Having always been passionate about the arts, specialising in home décor, personalised gifts, and jewellery, Mandy’s work draws inspiration from both South Africa and the UK. With a particular interest in combining glass fusing techniques, her work explores texture, with each piece finished by hand up to the point before firing takes place. The outcome is sometimes unexpected as the glass melts, and some pieces require two or three firings.
Mandy has recently discovered silver clay and looks forward to an exciting collaboration between silver clay and glass, further expanding the creative possibilities within her work.
Mandy’s pieces can be found in various exhibitions and galleries in the South West and across the UK. She enjoys sharing the joy of glass fusing with fellow glass artists and the community. Glasschick was created out of her love for both chickens and glass, when Lilly, the Silkie and part of the family, materialised onto the logo in an act of serendipity.
Mandy is one of the founders of the UK Glass Art Collective and is also a member of the Contemporary Glass Society, Plain Arts Salisbury, and Salisbury Art Scene.
